OUR MISSION
The initial raise in the minimum wage in Michigan shall be to $18.00 an hour on January 1, 2029. Subsequent raises shall occur by $1.50 an hour annually over each of the following seven years. After the final raise, the consumer price index shall be the basis for raises. To do that Real Wages Michigan is proposing an amendment to the State of Michigan Constitution. The amendment will be a collective positive vote of the people taking place on November 7th, 2028.
BENEFITS FOR ALL
Our ultimate belief is that everyone should be able to afford safe housing and food for themselves. This is why we believe in REAL WAGES for ALL INCLUDING: part-time and full-time workers, disabled workers, workers in training, tipped wage workers, working minors, and migrant workers.
EVERYONE would be included and we want to make sure wages are fair.
SOCIAL & ECONOMIC JUSTICE
Even if you yourself make enough to live comfortably, chances are likely that you know someone who is going through housing insecurity, even if it's not something they bring up. It could be a neighbor, a family member, an old classmate, or even a co-worker. We all know that lots of social factors, such as race and gender go into how much someone is paid for a job they perform, even if hiring managers are unconscious of this bias. Having a universal minimum wage for the whole state of Michigan set to a livable standard will ease these differences in wages to make things fair for everyone and reduce home insecurity in our communities.
