Since 1973, the worker productivity vs. compensation gap has increased exponentially.
The top one percent of wealth now exceeds the total wealth of the entire middle class.
One wealth definition - All property that has a money value or an exchangeable value.
The gains of the top one fifth of wage earners exceed the bottom one fifth by almost 100 percent.
Meet ALICE
ALICE (as described by United Way) are people who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed may be a relative or friend. You may be ALICE. As cashiers, waiters, child care providers, and other members of our essential workforce, ALICE earns just above the Federal Poverty Level but less than what it costs to make ends meet. These struggling households are forced to make impossible choices each day. While such hardship is pervasive, households of color are disproportionately ALICE.
What About Tip Workers?
We understand that tip workers want to keep their ability to earn tips, and we do not plan to take that away. We are working with various other organizations at the moment to figure what would be a fair base wage for tip workers that will allow them to make a living, but still allow for them to collect their hard earned tips.
